I just heard about this a few weeks ago, and then saw the preview. Looks kind of creepy. I want to go see it.

Sooooo, they've remade yet another classic? Or is the original film being re-released. I saw it last year, finally, after hearing about it for years.

I just heard the news that Rob Zombie is remaking "Hallowe'en"...*

That would be a shame.

That's all I have to say about that.

*Update*
Just checked IMDB.com and they verified that he is working on the project set to be released in 2007...

Okay, so I'm biased, I'm a Rob Zombie fan but even I was a little beleagured to hear yet another remake of an (in my opinion) mediocre movie to begin with. However, from the horses' mouth this is not a strict remake: It is supposed to replay several key events from the orignal Halloween movie but will also comprise "new footage" that will help to explain the childhood and subsequent psychopathic behavior that developed in Michael Myers.

I don't think this is grounds for seeing the movie but I, for one, am willing to give it a shot simply because of the track record (again, I'm biased); House of 1,000 Corpses, admittedly better the second time I watched it but initially a steaming pile of dog shite. The Devil's Rejects, significantly better than it's prequel although not exactly a cinematic masterpiece. Going out on a limb and assuming the remake of Halloween should follow this logic it should be a decent horror flick (and let's face it, by and large "decent" is about all we get anymore).

Anyway, that's my two cents.

Leave it to Big Perm to make the one hundredth post, anyway.

I haven't seen the original "Wicker Man" but the recap of it on " Hundred Scariest Movie Moments" it looks to me that it was more of a suspense film than a horror movie. Now if they didn't screw with this formula to much, which the new movie previews seem to show, I believe it could be a good movie.

As for the "Halloween" remake, I'm tired of the continual rehashing of horror movies. Some have been alright, those that I could bring myself to watch. I must say that I too liked Rob Zombies remake of "Texas Chainsaw Masacre" aka House of a Thousand Corpses. However I can not say that I like the idea of a remake of what is my favorite slasher movie, no matter the director.

Now I must play devils advocate and pose another veiw on this, this view also applies to our "favorite" Haunt "gimmicks". Just like the spinning tunnel and the chainsaw guy these horror remakes are just barely that. In a society that moves so quickly from one fad to the next most people (the intented market for both subjects) is not aware of the previous incarnation of these movies/scares. Thus the movie/scare is a new experience. So my conclusion is no matter how unoriginal or remade a movie/scare is the intended audience has never seen it, and the small group of fans that have previous experience of the movie/scare just don't matter.

Disclaimer: I belieive all of you haunt/horror Fans (I include myself in that group) matter, the statement above is the assumed view of corporations and marketing executives.

I agree, if they can make money off of it, they will keep doing it.

Butcha know what? After mulling it over for a bit, I realized that "The Wicker Man" is such a great story to begin with-and since MOST people aren't going to watch the original film anyway, that it's a very good idea to update it.
The fact that Ellen Burstyn is involved gives me hope. She is playing the role that was originally performed by Christopher Lee.
Another genre film that's coming up soon is "Feast". If you watched "Project Greenlight", then you are probably anticipating this monster flick. It'll be interesting to see the finished product.

This movie preview looks good. Snakes on a plane, I think is just too freaky. Growing up one of my biggest fears and one of the most recurring nightmares were snakes. Snakes every where. I still to this day have a hard time going to camp sites toilets. I was always afraid of something coming up from the John. I am from the south were water moccasions are everywhere. So being out here going to the lakes here, even though I know I am somewhat safe I always ask if there any there. So Snakes no...horror beyond that yes. I didnt even know wicker man was a remake. Just shows how old I am. Missed all the cool things. I like movies that make you think. Make you wonder if this could really happen over ones that you know never would. The mind is the best thing to scare.

I firmly believe that everyone in Hollywood has run out of new ideas, it has been this way for a long time. That is why we are getting all this rehashed crap instead of new unique ideas. And if someone actually has a good idea they rush it into production, water it down, give it a PG-13 rating, so they can make money off the 13 year old girl crowd, then pump out an a less creative yet equally watered down sequel 9 months later. This then trickles down to haunters, and they put these childish scares into their haunts because its what the 'general public' wants.

Yeah but then we have aweful movies like The Village. That was hyped out to be the next best movie after 6th sense and it was god aweful. Sometimes, remakeing old ones can expand on the story. I personally would love to see Halloween again. Remade with more on the history of why it happened. Its when they do movie and do sequels out of it that drives me crazy. If I see one more Chucky movie or one more nightmare on elm street, I will cast a spell on myself!

I liked The Village, but then wasn't expecting it to be a horror movie. I agree that it was mismarketted, which actually is happening quite a bit lately. I'll admit, the only reason I read critics' reviews of movies is to find out what its really about before I go, so that I don't have an expectation about a movie and then being disappointed.

I have heard the same thing in regards to 'Lady in the Water'. From what I understand it should be calssified as more of a Fantasy type of film rather than the Horror movie they keep hyping it as.

Exactly, it had a few scary parts, but it was definetely more of a fantasy movie, something the previews did not exactly show.

The ad campaign does make it seem like a horror film. I don't usually bother with any "horror film" with anything less than an 'R' rating, though. I mean, how scary can it be if it's only 'PG-13'? I'm not much of a Shyamalan fan, but I did like "The Sixth Sense" quite a bit. After that, the whole "Twilight Zone- ending schtick" just became an annoyance to me. I'll pass on this one, until it comes to cable at least.

#1: Rob Zombie's Halloween will not be a "remake", nor is it a continued installment. Its a Revisitation. Hes not gonna re-do the original, but more go back into that time and re-set this series. I personally look foreward to it and think that this "remake" will be one of the few good ones, unlike THE FREAKING OMEN. Its Shot for Shot, the original....and it STILL sucked ass. The original was so good. Its all cause of Gregory Peck.

#2: I think wicker man will do well due to Nick Cage, and that little girl. I dunno what it is, but little girls scare the shit out of me. Not like "hey missssster, want some cotton candy, i won it at a fair" thats ok...but like those twins in The Shining......*shiver*...get them away.....

#3....i forget number three at this point....damnit.....

Dude, I'm not one for censoring, but please do remember that there are younger teens and their parents who use this site as well. These forums have always managed to moderate themselves, and while I'm not pretending I don't use the same words, please help me out a little bit here and keep it decent, at least PG-13. Thanks.

No worries. Like I say, I'm no language saint. I just really don't want pissed off parents breathing down my neck and subsequently complaining to my webhost. Yes, sadly, it's happened before.

Hi, Rob and all- I know that the critics aren't always reliable (except for good ol' Chris Gore over at FilmThreat) AND they usually don't have to actually pay to see these films, but, have you seen the reviews over at rottentomatoes? It looks like this movie is a real stinkbomb. You may want to save a few bucks and see it when it hits the discount theater circuit or maybe wait for a rental or cable. 'Too bad, I was kinda excited about this one at first.
While not a horror film, I think that "The Illusionist" (starring Ed Norton) looks very interesting.

Went to a screening of The Wicker Man last night. Stephen and Kathy were there from Starland lol.

The movie was alright, a lot of cheap scares were thrown in and somethings didn't make sense. I haven't seen the original yet, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I am going to try to watch it tonight, so I will be back to make a comparison.

Indeed - The Illuisionist is a great movie. Edward Norton and Paul Giametti are excellent (as always) and Jessica Biel and Rufus Sewell do very well. Visually it is excellent. I highly recommend it. It is my favorite film of 2006 so far.

I saw Wicker Man last night - it had more plot holes than a graveyard. granted the people were creepy on the island, but man...save your money. when you think about it afterwards, it really doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

The trailer didn't make sense...that's why I haven't seen it yet. So are you saying we should wait until it comes out on DVD, or is it even worth that?

im saying if you buy the DVD you might as well just burn it in your fireplace for warmth to get the most out of it.
