Wasn't sure anyone had seen my review I posted yesterday under one of the'sub-subjects', so I thought I'd post it in a new topic. http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif
Hi there. Well, as it turns out, I ended up going to this haunt for what will most likely, be my only haunt this season. Let me start by saying just a few things. I act in another haunt (Murray's) AND as much as I adore the haunting season - and 'all the trimmin's', I have not had the pleasure of going through a haunted house as a guest in a very long time. My memories of them have always been VERY FUN and terribly frightening. I went to FOC on Thurs. night this week (Murray's wasn't open this last Thurs., so I was free to go). I was so excited to go ..... I got their really early!! Okay, I was pretty much the first one in line. LOL
I was there by myself (one reason I haven't been in such a long time .... kept hoping to find someone to go with me). I asked the family that, more or less arrived when I did, if they would mind if I walked through with them - they let me. My 1st comment is I really enjoyed this place!! The sets and props get my highest score. Talk about your eye candy. I just wanted to stand there and soak in all of the details!. 2nd, it took us an impressive amount of time to go through it so, I thought the length was great. 3rd, I felt like all of the actors worked really hard at their parts and were truly entertaining. I do remember the 'furnace room' and in fact would consider 1 of my 3 favs in the place. Loved the execution!!! VERY COOL!
Here is where I have to confess to something that really suprised and confused me - I don't think I was ever really scared?! Now, I've been trying to figure out why ever since. Keep in mind, I've always found myself to be a pretty 'jumpy' person and really expected to be 'freakin' out' proper-like walking through a good haunt. Perhaps, in my mind I have built this experience up so high (since it's been so long since my last time through one as a guest) that no place could ever hope to meet my expectations -if so, shame on me for living in my lil' dilusion so deeply. Or, perhaps because I went through with a family incl. 3 young children, the actors went soft on us, or maybe because I was kind of lagging behind (that whole eyecandy thing again) I missed some of the scare factor. Is it actually possible having now worked in a haunted house for a few years that my scare senses have become dulled (sure hope not!).
Anyhow, aside from that, I have to admit I saw what I thought could have been a few great scare spots that lacked actors, but hey, it was Thurs. AND I was in the 1st group ......(excuses? maybe, maybe not...)
Overall though, for all of you at FOC the most important thing to come away with here is that I absolutely enjoyed myself and felt it was worth every penny!! Thankyou for all of your hard work!
