Floydfan and I went to this haunt last night. It's incredible what you can do in the basement of a high school. The sets are great and the actors are even better! These teenagers aren't just doing this for extra credit or to fill up an otherwise boring night, they actually want to be there.
At $6 each, this is more than worth it. This house beats the pants off some other professional haunts around the state.
On a related and pretty annoying note, NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness) members in Boulder got the house to change their name from the "Insanitarium" to "Boulder High Haunted House". They said they felt that this kind of haunt discourages people with mental illness to seek help and further perpetuates the negative stereotype surrounding those who are mentally ill.
You can find the article here (http://www.dailycamera.com/bdc/schools/article/0,1713,BDC_2488_5101022,00.html). These people have sent two dozen e-mails to the Asylum to try and get them to change their name and theme. I hope I am not the only one disgusted by this.

GO GO GO! I went last night with my boyfriend and our friend who lives in Boulder we all were impressed and scared! These kids did a great job and its totally worth it for $6 (which actually goes towards a good cause). I was talking with one of the men running it last night and apparently he and his son put together the whole thing with the help of the theater students. They attended multiple hauntcons over the years and it shows.
The acting was my favorite part. Each student had a clear character and motive which macthed their particuar set. And they really worked hard at interacting with the audience. They had good costumes and makeup along with great sets, particularly considering it went up in two weeks and without a professional budget. The underground tunnels are really creepy and get you in the mood for the show. Falling objects, creepy characters, chainsaws, water, movie references and some clever use of space are all there. Combined with good timing of the scares and spacing of the groups I definitely recommend that you take the trip to Boulder http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Having been to many of the houses in the area I can say this one ranks among the top ten. I liked it better than Scream Park and Spider Mansion, particularly considering very little waiting in line and a bargain price.

We went in around 8:30, but we were there from about 7:30 waiting for a friend. Me and the guy in a red track jacket were hanging in the hallways in front of a big pink ribbon display case.....

What line or what costs did you pay or have to wait in Kristy? I think VIP entrance at no cost is a darn good deal.

I went last night, and it was well worth the trip! What a great job! I really enjoyed the fact that groups were spaced out well, and the we were encouraged to take our time walking through so that we wouldn't miss anything. One of my kids was so scared in the beginning that she ran back about 10 feet screaming her head off!
Kudos to Boulder High for putting on a great show!!

You're right Screampark was free for me, but not everyone in the lounge is an HD Critic. I think Boulder High is a great deal and because it isn't marketed very well the line was really short, but that certaintly doesn't speak for the quality. I had a great time and I'll stand by that I enjoyed it more than some of the professional haunts. The acting was really good, the costumes were very thorough and the sets were great. They definitely got some good scares on me and they provide a great haunt at $6, they're only open one weekend and I'm all about giving them props for putting up a great show.
THANKS BHS! http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Kudos to BHS. I think that is awesome. They deserve all the credit. My comment is geared more towards making your comment more general. Why is there a constant need to single out ScreamPark. I have no problem with any reviews or comments geared towards giving one a thought, I am not for censoring like others here, but we were just surprised that a response as positive as yours ends with only mentioning the long lines of just 2 haunts. It makes those 2 haunts sour, since you only single out those and not all the others that have long lines, short staff, bad weather and costs higher then a non proffessional haunt. My lines and costs were just like others and also had some negative thoughts said about them. I wish I could have seen their place and others, that is one thing I missed this year. If we are going to live by the rules of others then lets be more fair in some of our comments. All we have had are one post posters and people who feel the need to make this year I think one of the most negative. Its a shame, that with a postive review we have to slam another at the same time. If I am a Haunt operator and need to live by that rule, I think critics should also. Maybe that is how its done in other places you've been or maybe its how it is here now, but it gets old and damaging. What are we trying to accomplish here? I believe we have a place to post our thoughts as you did but to watch how we say and see how others may read what we say. Your intentions were honorable but came across is another way by some. At this point the season is over with. We all had a great time. We all got to be scared, get scared and scare others and that is what its all about.

I see what you're saying and I suppose reviews that single out individual Haunts aren't really fair. I wasn't actually trying to make a comparison about the lines or cost specifically it's just an added bonus. I really simply meant that I liked BHS better, and I would wait in line and pay more money for a few of the other Haunts out there. Hopefully tonight will be a good end to an intense season and I'm sorry if I tainted that in anyway.
Happy Halloween everyone!
