Ok, who here has seen the remake of Halloween by Rob Zombie?
I watched it last week, and must say I was pretty impressed! I liked the begining that gives background on what made Michael go psycho. Daeg Faerch as young Michael did an outstanding job! That is one creepy kid! I did feel that that sequence went on too long, it could have been done in 30 minutes tops instead of 50. I could have lived without the non-stop filth that came out of everyone's mouth during that 50 minutes also. For me it didn't bring realism to the film, it brought trash.
Once Michael escaped from the institution that was where the movie had my undivided attention! The intensity that Rob Zombie brought to this film was a nitrous loaded thrill ride for me! Tyler Mane was an awesome choice for adult Michael. His size alone really ramped up the scare factor, and they way he demolished his way through the movie was excellent!
Set design in the Myers' house once Michael comes home was fantastic! I would love to see that kind of detail in local haunts...it would make my blood run ice cold!
Overall, a great film if you are into horror, and want to see a pumped up version of the classic!
??? Why do all of the characters in Rob Zombie's films have long hair, bad teeth, and bring a new meaning to "trailer trash"? Just wondering...

I've not had the opportunity to see the new Halloween movie yet, but I am looking forward to it.
A related movie that I saw at the Tivoli was Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. If you like the Michael/Jason/Freddy style slasher movies, then you should definately see this one. It is completely awesome and touches on a lot of the tropes of all slasher movies. Leslie Vernon has decided to become a killer like Michael/Jason/Freddy and has a documentary crew to show how much work and planning it takes. It is the best horror-comedy that I've seen since An American Werewolf in London. It also just happens to be available on DVD. I highly recommend it.
I'll write a review and post it when I get a chance. Right now I can't start a New Topic in the Forum (for some reason it keeps telling me that I don't have permission to do so).

I can honestly say that, after seeing his first two directorial outings, I don't really care to see Mr. Zombie's take on the Michael Meyers saga. Rob Zombie is a messy filmmaker. Seeing "House of 1,000 Corpses" was like watching someone drink and drug to excess and then vomit onto the screen. Uh, just my opinion.
What really bugs me is the backstory approach. If he's really "THE BOGEYMAN", as he was described as being in the original film, how much of a backstory does he friggin' need? One of the most powerful elements from the original story is that you really have no idea what caused the Shape to bring down his reign of carnage.
Again, if I want to be horrified by the antics of white trash then I'll just tune into "The Jerry Springer Show".

My boundless curiosity will be my downfall, I suppose. I'll probably see this when it makes it to the buck fifty theater, which should be any day now.

This was one of the best horror movies released in a while! I loved it, but I guess I also like everything Rob Zombie does. http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

I just saw this film last night, and I actually did enjoy it.
I have not seen any Halloween movies before this one (I know, and I call myself a haunted fan, but I like more lets pop out and make you jump movies) and I really enjoyed it even though I couldnt always watch the killings.
The story was good, and I love horror movies with a story.

Oh, skittle- How I dearly wish that you could travel back in time and see John Carpenter's original "Hallowe'en" (on the big screen), then you'd realize just how fresh and original it was back in the day. While I'm wishing...I also want a unicorn, with wings and a knack for snappy banter.

I enjoyed it, an interesting look into the origins of a classic movie slasher. Way better than what has been coming out of the horror movie sequel machine recently

Well sure it was blood and guts...it's a slasher film. That said, there was an intensity in the second half that really rocked! It was set design in the old Myers' house, the force in which Tyler Mane went through the house, those were the things that I enjoyed about it. Tyler Mane brought life to Michael better than the original. How scary can a guy that walks REALLY slow honestly be? Tyler Mane's performance had you saying, "Hey, that guy is off the hook!" If I just watched it, and based my opinion on the movie as a whole, I might agree with you. I look at all the aspects of a film...writing, acting, makeup, costumes, set design, background noises/sounds, lighting, authenticity, etc....there were parts that were lame, but there were also sequences that flat out tore it up. It was a creative new perspective on an old cult classic, and gave the Michael character another facet in which to view him.

Thanks for saying so. I like the idea of slow-moving patient evil, mysterios in origin. It was suspenseful and left everything to the imagination. PLUS, Jamie Lee Curtis was someone you could relate to-and though I haven't seen Zombie's version, I'm not expecting much.

Ok, so right off the bat, I have to say that I LOVED the new Halloween. To me it's like the new Star Wars movies. There's things that have no business being in the movie (Jar Jar) but at the end of the day, it's still Star Wars and it's pretty cool. Comparing the new Halloween to the old is like comparing the new Star Wars to the old ones. YOU CAN'T DO IT!!! They're completely differenet movies fantastic in their own way. I've been playing Michael Myers at a haunted house for 4 years now, and I feel he's a character that I'm pretty close to. Tyler Mane was awesome, and the brutality that he brought to the role was quite impressive. But the key elements that made the original Michael Myers great are still there. The cold, "what the hell is about to happen?" element is still there. And now we know why he's so insane in the membrane. Bottom line, I loved it and I can't wait until it comes out on DVD so I can buy it.
