Okay, let's say that you were about to open your very own scarefest, with a limitless budget and tons of talent at your beck and call (like say, Stan Winston and crew). What would you call it? What would you bring to the terrortable that no one else has dared to offer?
As for me, I'd like to send in only one individual at a time for a completely bizarro nightmarish excursion. Sure, the waiting time would be excruciating, but I think you'd really get your money's worth. Think "Dante's Inferno", think Greek mythology, "Pan's Labyrinth"..that's the kind of barrier-breaking experience I'd attempt to offer ...if I had about a million bucks to blow.

I would have at least one section that is pitch black....small spaces to squeeze through....suble noises, just enough to let you know you're not alone in the dark, but you can't tell what's in there with you. I love when I can let my imagination run wild...that's what gets me the most. Left to my own devices in the dark, I can get myself all worked up in no time. The unknown is the scariest thing for me. Feeling a creepy touch in the dark, or feeling someone breathing down your neck....that's scary for me.

As far as a general theme, I love the old farmhouse that's been deserted for 40 years feel. peeling paint, musty, moldy smells, ancient cellars...that's my thing.

Wow, I love that. When I was working in Sterling, CO at a haunt. we had a room devoted to the pitch black. You followed a rope around the room, and there were some actors in there with feathers that would occasionally tickle the back of peoples necks, or their arms. It was uber scary!

Yep! And the outside appearance is everything for me. If it looks like the house from Psycho on the outside, I'm freakin' before I even get inside!! There's a old abandoned house in Arvada that looks like that. I drive by there sometimes just to get a free case of the creeps....hahahhaa

I'd love to have some sort of "leap of faith" type thing, where people in the haunt are forced to do something that every instinct in your body says is totally unsafe. I imagine like a bottomless pit you have to jump into or a cage of carzy animals you have to face. Of course, these are pretty extreme, so this really only works in theory, but I like the idea of making the visitors partiipate and knowingly do something they're uncomfortable with.

I'd make a few different Haunts, each with a theme.

The Asylum had a "Phobia Research Center" area; I'd expand on that theme. A giant animatronic spider rushing the queue would be awesome... Maybe something a la Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare" TV special would be good for a Haunt. The guests are caught in a bad dream sequence and the nightmares are awful.

I've always like the idea of having actors in line just like regular patrons. Then, after they enter the Haunt, they become something that has been attacked/devoured/captured/etc. - something to give the "Hey, that guy was just in line! Oh *@%&!!!" reaction.

I don't think it is feasible, but a Haunt that forced people to go through individually.....strapped to a gurney or a wheelchair or something....would be the best way to truly scare someone. We gain strength in numbers; eliminating the numbers allows for a more personal Fright Experience. I don't think people would go to a Haunt like that, though. I don't know if I'd enjoy that as much - I don't scare easily and the thing I enjoy the most at a Haunt is watching other people (particularly my friends) scream and run. Hurm.

I like the "Dante's Inferno" theme a lot. If done properly, it would be a great Haunt.

A bunch of friends and I have to completely agree with you on that. In one of my old jobs at a haunt in Sterling, I followed a group through once, and just kept on scaring them, they thought i was a regular patron for a while, until the finally looked back at me. It was great fun as an actor and great fun as a patron!

So awesome, i'm on this band wagon!

That is such a good idea! That would scare me to death if someone in my group turned out to be an actor or just randomly got taken out by something! I was thinking it would be cool if the you had a guide lead you through part of the attraction and then randomly get eaten or something and then the rest of the group has to find there own way out.
