View Full Version : Haunted Houses The Same?

Is it me or are there others that think some of the haunted houses have stayed at least 95% the same?
Last year many of the haunts I attended have stayed the same. I am getting tired of paying for a ticket every year to see the same show. If people can only attend a few haunted houses and they go back to their favorite Haunted House they may get annoyed at paying for the same show they paid for last year like I do.
I hope when I go this year I will see some new shows. Let me know what has changed and I'll put those Haunts on the top of my list.

Hi Large Spider this is Little Spider. If we can boast a little we have changed our Haunt "Scream Park" over 90% of any thing we have done in the past. I know you will be pleased. We open tonight.

Oh yes my darling spiders, what a web we have spun this year! May I enlighten you with a tasty bit of venom and entice you and yours to enjoy a trip through the depths of darkness. You may need a shovel to dig your 8 legs out of this one cause dirt and spider do not mix. The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out for tonight is opening night http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Yipeee!

I had the chance to go to Murray's over the weekend and I can post my own review on that one anyway but overall I was unimpressed with the changes. that is NOT to say that I didn't like it. Sure there were parts that I didn't like (like the actor who kept screaming in my ear to go to detention that made my normally good-humored nature turn sour to the point of near aggravated assault) to the deathtrap that I thought some of the scenes were.
Overall, I enjoyed it because of the raunchiness of it. I love house of 1,000 corpses, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hills Have Eyes, etc. so the theme rolled with what I like very well. But... I didn't really notice much of a change from the point where I went 2 years ago. The "driver" was funny but smelled like booze (maybe that's just real good attention to detail), it felt like a few of the sets remained virtually identical.
Like I said, I liked this one and maybe it is the emergency service member in me that questions it but the draped plastic and the untreated EPS makes me wonder what fire marshal out there doesn't care about their job.

I have to totely disagree with you big perm....murrays has completely changed their theme, and the layout of their haunt not only from last year but a ton from 2 years ago, I had a chance to go check it out like I do every year and as usual had a great time, got spooked, laughed and wasnt bothered by any of the actors, I do know the actor your talking about and once I went to detention he didnt bother me,,did you happen to just stand there not knowing what todo? your comment about the safety is your and yours alone.. I know they have people looking out to make sure there are no problems and have tons of exits if there was,,If the plastic is a problem why didnt the fire marshal call them on it, personaly I have always had a great time at murrays and plan on taking some friends and family later in the month,I highly recommend this haunt!

Hey, like I said, I liked it I just said that it wasn't much different from when I went two years prior. I did notice they changed their name but as far as layout, I couldn't tell, it felt pretty similar to me
But... since nobody has decided to start any s#!t this year I'll go ahead and stir it up.

If he didn't bother you I'm glad because I actually wanted to turn around and make this guys innie an outie. Of course I didn't "just stand there not knowing what to do," I was the last one in my group and he followed me for at least 20 feet while I was walking along.

It's apparent that they have a fleet of people ready for emergency egress, they're called actors and everyone has that advantage. What I haven't seen in every haunted house is exit signs covered up, hanging plastic, one entrance/exit and untreated EPS. As far as it being my opinion, nope, wrong there too; I've heard multiple people in emergency services refer to it as a "deathtrap." Lastly, why didn't the fire marshal call them on it? That's what you get when you're in an all volunteer district. I can 100% guarantee that if they were in another district they would not open, as it is I can't understand how they do already.
That said, I really did like this one: aside from Delilah (what I've named that detention boy) they had good acting, pretty good scenery and overall I just like the idea that they run with (the whole loony redneck part, not the "we changed our name in a shameless attempt to get publicity" part).

Wow, that was a great argument, nothing like throwing any sort of factual account to the wind and just attacking the person posting.

I'm used to it at this point, when you start to be the bad guy you get ready to take the heat that comes with it so someone calling me "dippy" really doesn't do a whole lot. I just find it really funny, all of the actors that come out of the woodwork to point out that I'm wrong but not how I'm wrong.
Bottom line, I payed for my ticket, I can say whatever the hell I want; I know firefighters and fire inspectors in the area so I know what I'm talking about and I've been there more than once so I can make an evaluative opinion.
Nice to forget the fact that I said I liked it. Well done, Raul, maybe next time you can use your big boy words.

Any haunt in a building that large needs a sprinkler system...

Has anyone thought that maybe this black plastic 2x4 no sprinkler system death trap might actually be a trick. Maybe they want you to get the feeling that the building is unsafe. I have to say that Murray does a great job of trying to make you feel like you are in something that you aren't. And not to bash anyone, but if the fire marshall from that district is a volunteer and not doing their job, then maybe someone should speak up. I mean, don't they need certification for a job with such a high priority of keeping people safe.
And if my memory isn't mistaken, didn't Scream Park get screwed last year for building code, and aren't they in the same district, if not, I appoligize.

Scream Park did get slammed last year. No sprinkler systems in the indoor portions. That was why no indoor areas open. I don't know if Murrays have sprinklers. I know they have talked about it. Just don't know if completed. But I am sure the firedepartment has been there prior to opening.

I've thought about that, Scary, and I don't think that's really the case. That's a pretty elaborate goal to try and confuse all 3 people that actually know.

This will be the last year Murrys will run without a sprinkler boys and girls. Scream Park is not in the same district , and as far as anything other then plastic being untreated , that is a poor assumption ! Yes we have plastic, no I dont like it either. We will not be using plastic in the future. Our entire staff is trained and aware of what to do in case of emergency. Glad you liked it Perm. I think we might have a few sets in the same spot but the sets have lots more detail and have changed alot. Its my second year here after leaving Scream Park. I know for fact we re-vamped Murrys at least 90% or better from last year. My wish is that Murrys, and Scream Park , get sprinklers so that we can both continue what we love to do for years to come. With all that said , I will shut up now . Enjoy yer season Big (dippy) Perm Just kidding dude ! No need to start ripping me .

No worries, mate. I should've pointed out that that the set design is much better than it was or has been and that was something I thought was improved upon. I'm glad to hear that some of the fire prevention is taken into account and will be finished this year. As far as Scream Park goes, I think they could benefit from the addition of a sprinkler system at least as well; I went about 3 years ago, when they were running it inside the barn and in my opinion it hasn't been as good since although I've yet to see it this year.
Thanks for the articulated response.
