I'm trying to set myself on fire (for a haunted house). It occured to me that I have never seen an effect like that before, but then it's also probably for good reasons, due to danger and such.

Does anyone know if using fire requires a kind of permit? I'll definitely look up the laws in my own county, but if anyone had experience with this sort of thing I'd be very curious. I've been looking for firesuits and such. I take safety very seriously, so I'd want to do this effect the right way. Even just having an arm light up would be a nice, controllable effect.

So are you talking something similar to this:

I believe the firemancer at http://www.firemancer.com/ May be a good person to talk to. I believe he frequents these boards.

His work is great and he is "one righteous dude, Ferris"

Maybe he will chime in. Stunts in haunted houses are becoming more and more frequent http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

I'm curious, what attraction do you work for? Really, I'm asking because fire code enforcement varies widely from district to district and you need to find out which code your county and department have adopted. Generally speaking though the FD would sh!t a purple brick if they found out that one of the actors was lighting themselves on fire. Not to mention the insurance premiums that your employer would have to deal with.

Overall I'd say it's pretty much impossible to pull of a stunt like that from a fire prevention point of view, remember, you may be a non-combustible but just about anything around you could be.

Sweet idea though.
