Hey! If you all are really curious about this haunt then you should check out a new site that actually has there new, not 2006, reviews up...and it seems to be the best site out right now. No purchased reviews![/b]
Nathan,

First off, how incomprehensibly lame of you to come and promote your crappy little site here. If Haunted Denver sucks so bad, why are you using its boards to promote your site? I went to your site. It's written like an 8th-grade book report and is about as visually appealing as a last-minute science fair project.

Second, I don't own Haunted Denver any more, but if I did, I would sue your ass for using Haunted Denver's copyrighted material to make your "Locations" page. The fact that you have the exact same content as the HD "Attractions" page, including the same errors that they just recently fixed (which I take as proof that you plagiarized), is unethical at best, illegal at worst.

Third, why don't you just be honest about why you started that site. You didn't think there was anything wrong with the other sites. You just figured that starting your own review site was an easy way to score free haunted house tickets.

How do I know that? Because I used to *be* you six years ago when I started Haunted Denver. The only difference was that I knew how to build a decent website, I knew haunted houses, and I knew how to write.

But you are full of s**t to imply that Haunted Denver's reviews have *ever* been tainted by the fact that they accept paid advertising. No haunt's review has ever been boosted by the fact that they advertised. If you think that's true, why don't you go ask the guy who owns the haunt in Brighton. He advertised last year and then they got a pretty mediocre review, and I was the one who had to take that angry phone call and tell him sorry, the reviews stand. You don't get to buy yourself a better review.

And by criticizing sites like HD for having ads, you're just setting yourself up to be a hypocrite later. If you're not planning to sell ads on your site, then I'm curious to know how you expect to get the money to pay to keep your site going. The first three years that Haunted Denver was running, before there was paid advertising, I spent about $750 per year just for hosting, another $500 or so per season for the email newsletter service, and had to dump in a ton of hours to build the damn thing.

I guarantee that you'll do one of three things with your site: 1) Start selling ads to pay the site's bills, 2) Move it to a free (ad-supported) webhost, or 3) Discontinue the site. I guarantee you don't have the money, knowledge, determination, or tenacity to follow this project through.

And it's crap for you to jump in and piss all over other people's hard work.

I used to bite my tongue when arrogant little pricks like you used to say "Haunted Denver's reviews are biased." But now, I no longer own the site, nor do I work for it or have any kind of employment connection to any haunt, and I'm calling you out on the carpet.

The WHOLE POINT of Haunted Denver is to provide the kind of reviews you think you can magically provide, and that you think HD is somehow failing to deliver. That is bulls**t.

You want to review haunted houses? Great. But you better not do a piss-poor job of it, or else you drag through the mud every other legitimate haunted house critic in Denver. And don't go stepping on the people who have been doing this site as a labor of love for years in an attempt to make yourself look like the savior of haunted house reviews.

Denver doesn't need you or your little suckfest of a website.

Regards,
Rob, aka Shade

**DISCLAIMER: I no longer have any affiliation with Haunted Denver, its owners, or its related companies. My thoughts stated here are entirely my own.

I have to say though, its disappointing that it is nearly half way through October and haunteddenver hasn't postedreviews yet. They came through opening weekend, how long can it take to post the reviews of houses seen several weeks ago?

Rob - Mad Props. And just to reiterate - I volunteer a ton of time for Haunted Denver, because I love haunted houses and believe in what HD stands for. Nobody tells me what to say and I think the reviews, once up, will prove as much.

DarkKefka - Reviews should be up this week, an executive decision was made to release them all at once. Things would have been up sooner had haunts that were advertised as open not been closed when we went. I for one am sorry they couldn't be up sooner, yet even with cramming in 5 or 6 houses most nights it's incredibly difficult to get them all done any sooner. We definitely hear your feed back though, thanks!

I tell you what, darkkefka, as much s#!t as I've given the critics over the years (a good portion of which I'm not proud of) they really do the best that they can. How about you go out with 7 of your friends with full time jobs only available on Friday and Saturday only, you go to 20 different haunted houses over a 75 mile radius, write your reviews on them, edit them, average them then combine them and get them to a webmaster who has to manually type them in. Think you can do that in 2 weeks? Great.

Just because you got reviewed on day 1 doesn't mean that they could get to all of them that night. Come on dude, really? I'm as interested to see them as you are but hot damn.

Ok, Rob, I really need to clear up that i am not Nathan. My name is Jonathan and i have nothing to do with any of this stuff. I love and have a passion for haunted houses. I don't want everyone to get mad at this new web site because that fact is they had there reviews up earlier than HD and i liked there style. No big deal. I think you should, instead of getting pissed, and assuming i was nathan, maybe ask me who i am or find out first before you verbally destroy the web site. i have been an october lounge member sense last year and i think its a great site, but i also want people to know that there are other sites out there that do things differently and put up there reviews in a different. i do apologize because i was out of place in saying that HD is biased. I didn't mean to cause trouble. and i especially didn't mean for you, or the owners to be upset with me talking about my opinions.

When your opinion is based on rumor or speculation, and people know what the REAL truth is, it upsets people and makes them angry. As I told you before, check your facts.

I call shenanigans. I think you got in over your head and now you're backpedaling. How did you magically find out about this site? It doesn't show up on any search engine, and no other site links to it. The domain name was just created on the 23rd of September, less than 3 weeks before you came in here promoting it.

If you're not the site creator, you have a very close connection to the creator. Lying about it now is only going to make you look worse to a haunt community that's already irritated with you. It would be better to admit that you thought you'd get yourself some free publicity by advertising your site here (or your best friend's site, whichever the case may be) and you made a critical error. But nobody's buying this "I'm just a haunt fan" crap.

You posted something that said "check out a real review site." And the jumbo banner across the front page of the site you're advertising says "Proven Reviews Not Purchased Ones."

Like hell you didn't mean to cause trouble. You knew exactly what you were doing, and you should apologize for being a prick and a douche with extremely poor judgement, not for "accidentally upsetting people." I seriously hope you get a cease and desist letter telling you to shut down your website. We'll see how big your balls are then.

I'm telling you, Jo-Nathan, you're trying to fix something that's not broken, and I seriously hope you're not hoping that people will jump aboard your bandwagon. I predict you'll be sitting pretty lonely on that high horse of yours.

Maybe a better use of your time would be posting your reviews here, where they've actually GIVEN you a free and open forum to post whatever you think about any haunted house in Denver.

In the meantime, maybe I'll drop by and post a comment on the "Best Haunt In Denver" message boards. Oh, wait. I forgot. You don't have any.

I guess instead, I'll read your reviews about Brutal Planet since I was thinking of heading there this weekend. Oh, wait. You thought it was too expensive, so you skipped it.

How about your review of the new haunt in town, The Chilling Hour? Oh wait, you skipped that, too. I couldn't even believe this one -- you actually posted that said something to the effect of, "We didn't even bother with this one. It's in an old Laser Storm, so how can we even take it seriously?" I notice you deleted that comment, though. Did you get a complaint from that haunt's legal department, too? You're going to get yourself in trouble you didn't expect, bro.

Maybe I'll look for some coupons so I can save money on the attractions I'm visit. Oh wait, you don't have those either. Just sloppy reviews of about 3/4 of the haunts in town, in jumbo font, and with no spellcheck.

Damn, your site is cool, huh?

I don't mean to warmonger but I know Jonathan personally, and I know that when their crew came through, we were all surprised, but contrary to what they say on their site, they let us know they were coming. So all in all, I know Jonathan is not involved, and that's how we found out about them.

Wow, I think Nathan (or whoever the real owner of the site may be) is kind of like the 13th floor haunted house. All of these new people with hardly any posts magically know this Nathan character, but aren't him...

Anyways Nathan, because I'm sure you, and your umpteen aliases are reading this, I'm glad you're here, we haven't had much controversy and the boards have been rather stale this year... Its good to see everyone riled up to oust the annoying guy.

The only thing that could possibly make this better is if the "Haunted Houdini" were Dan Henry.

If only me auntie had bollocks she'd be me uncle.

It's pretty easy to belittle a project when you're not capable of doing it. As far as next year goes, do it, nobody is going to really care then either since you don't take the time to go in unbiased nor to even review all of the attractions.

Also, to Boston: proof reading is a wonderful thing.

Doing it next year would be a way of proving I am, in fact, capable of doing it (hence the only reason I would do it). And you have no idea if I would be objective or go to all of the haunted houses since a) you don't know me, and http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif since I have yet to go reviewing haunts and doing just those two things.

2 part-time jobs and the weekends off
a full time job and the weekends off
a full time job and Monday and Wednesday off
a full time job and Wednesday and Saturday off
a full time job, and no appreciation for haunted houses
who go to school, have a full time job, and no real days off to speak of

scary
10-15-2007, 07:03 PM
I just need to jump in here.

Isn't it kind of fishy that this guy's website somehow appeared out of no where. I have constantly typed in Denver Haunt reviews, or something of that matter, and only got haunted denver and haunted ratings. It just seems kinda fishy.

Plus it appeared on october lounge a few days days after people started wondering where the reviews are. hmmmmm......maybe all of these reviews are fake!!! Maybe he's been to these haunts over the years and made up this review site to make people happy. It seems real fishy that he mentions that the high school reviewer on his "team" is there to give high schoolers a good perspective, yet he only has one compliled review, so how do I know if this high schooler liked it or not? It seems that this site is full of crap.

Here's my hunch, he created the site, based his reviews off of October lounge and his own experience with the haunts that haven't been reviewed on october lounge.

If you look at a lot of the reviews, they are very similair to what a lot of people have said on this site. Take FOC for instance. He says that one of his reviewers didn't like the guide. Wasn't there some discussion about this earlier this year?? How about Spider Mansion? He said he didn't like it for many reasons, but one of his cons was the stuffed animal in one of the scenes. Wasn't there some discussion about this earlier this year. Oh, and my favorite. How about Dead Before Dawn, or Chilling Hour, or Brutal Planet, or Screams. Oh wait, Dead Before Dawn is new, so he can't base it off a past visit, and the review on the reader review didn't saw too much with much of a response, so he can't base it off that. Then there's Chilling Hour, the same goes for this haunt. Then there's Elitch Gardens' haunts. Brutal Planet has changed their theme yet again this year, which was posted on a reader review along with little response, so he can't base it off either of those. And Screams, no reader reviews yet, and if he reviewed that haunt, there would be some question marks flying around.

Oh, and one more thing. Two of his reviewers are a couple he met at some haunt, and they happened to go to the same haunts and eventually became friends and reviewed a lot of haunts together. Not a lot of credibility there. If I was going out with a date to numerous haunts, and realized that this guy happened to be going to the same haunts as me, and in the same group, I would get a feeling that I was being stocked. Then he goes on to mention that one of his reviewers is a friend of his' son. If this kid's dad/mom was your friend, why isn't he going as well. I mean, unless there is some creepy love conection going on there, I would be scared from a father's/mother's standpoint for this child.

NOTE: If you own this website, be warned, there may be stupid people out there, but a lot of us here realize this scam you are putting on is bogus.

Oh wait, here's a hunch, maybe it's the HD owner, creating all of this fire to divert us from the question about 2007 reviews...........oh wait, they took away the web address, so that can't be the case.......anyways, back to all this bashing about this crappy review site.

Thanks for the crappy reviews Mr. Houdini, but I think I will wait the long wait for the HD reviews, which have been solid for more years than yours. Take a look from the past years, all of the reviews are spot on, and yours are not. So long Mr. Houdini, smoke and mirrors were used in this bogus magic trick of yours.

TO HD: A LOT Of US HERE THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK AND FEEL SADDENED BY THIS HOUDINI.
