The critics talked loosely about nominating our top haunts, most improved, or something to that effect. So because I'm so excited that the reviews are up I'm going to give you my Top 3 Haunts to see in 2007!
1) Hauntplex! - This is kind of cheating, but I can't pick just one! I love Hauntplex, because its really really unique. Falling cielings, walls, moving elements, getting lost, darkness, strobes, and two themes that you really don't see anywhere else; all my favorite elements are there! The only thing they didn't hit for me was separation. But two other haunts did!
2) Murrays Massacre - Soooo great this year. I heard some people on the boards disagreeing, but I really love that the theme is so prevalent in every room. They used a lot of the darkness and lighting elements that I prefer. There was an awesome choice to split the group at the boys and girls lockers that was missing from Hauntplex. It wasn't 100% successful, but I give them props for executing on a cool scare tactic few others are using.
3) The Asylum - Same here on that last item. Getting split from the group is such a cool idea. I think its still being developed and has different success depending on the haunt-goer, but props for busting that out. And The Asylum still has mastery above all others in the disorienting strobe effects. That totally kills me and I love it above all else!
One last note about my choices, please keep in mind that Hauntplex and The Asylum are simlar to last year. So if you've got gripes about haunts not changing it up you might want to consider someone else's favs.

I would pick any of the 4 top rated first before Asylum. That would be my 5th stop. I would give more credit and my money to those that kicked more butt this year. One of the main complaints here is changes. thank you though for adding your final note at the end. Congrads to Murrays, not bad for a fire trap!! Congrads to all!!!! Great season.

Not to be the a$$hole but were you drunk? I'm not even sure if there was a point in there. Then again, it's pretty early by my clock.

I am used to you being an a-hole, nothing differant to deal with this year. But since I dont know what would I have been drunk with which point I will just re-explain my post entirely for those that read very late at night or very early in the morning and aren't awake yet. The critics just finished busting their butts reviewing all the haunts, giving everyone their thoughts and rating them. To then come back and say that one of the critics choice now is to pick 2 haunts that werent even in the top 5 if I rememer correctly to go see. Now maybe I read it wrong, but to me it was like saying hey top 4, you did great , you busted butt, but now I think XYZ is better and that is my recommendation to go see. What is that telling the owners of the haunts that did a better job and had just been told they scored higher. I am not trying to be the bitch here, but the way I read her post rubbed me wrong. Does that help perm now to understand, or do I need to figure out how to bring pictures in here? The congrads portion is self explainatory.

Oh, okay, I got what you meant now. The critic (Moodeus) was just explaining her favorites of the year, nothing more, nothing less and not taking anything away fro the winners. Is it just because Brutal planet wasn't in there that you got mad? I think you just read a little too much into that comment. I'll give credit where it's due but there's a couple on that list that are higher than they, all things equal, should be.
Also, where's the beef? Last season you were all buddy/buddy with me.

I am not mad or care that Brutal planet was or wasn't in there. That didnt even cross my mind. Why is it if someone doesn't agree on something here that it is because of the house we work in or work for? Are we not able to think across the board at ALL the haunts? That would be like me saying that because you are friends with one of the haunts mentioned that you would throw that out? I would hope that at our age, We are little more mature than that. One of the best qualities in you perm is your ability to be fair across the board, and to show both good and bad in what you feel and think. If something you stand behind fails you admit it. I would hope that I am like that also. I know the mistakes I made last year. I know what went wrong and what went right. But my thoughts were more fair and across the board. I admit that last year was wild and I learned alot about the industry, the people in it, and even ask Rob I learned about HD. One of the last things I told Rob, I wouldnt be back here this year. But since this is something that I am a part of, I did come back with more caution and care. My experience has helped me become a better actor, better lead, better person and more watchful of the cow pies that you must walk around in this industry. I am sure with all the phone calls Rob and I had that you learn to think across the board. So with that being said the only beef here is with the spaghetti I had for dinner tonight.
Where they hell did my avatar go?? It was there then poof!!! Can anyone else see me or is it just me not seeing it??

They modified the board's hosting settings and it looks to me like that interfered with the path to the uploaded avatar files.
In other words, the path to the avatar you uploaded used to be right but now is wrong. If you right-click on your avatar and click Properties, you will see the old path that it is trying to follow to pull in the image. (The physical address for the boards used to be octoberlounge.invisionzone.com -- the www.octoberlounge.com was just a redirecting address, but now they fixed that. It's something I meant to do in years past but never got around to finishing.)
Avatars that are hosted elsewhere, like mine which is on Photobucket, are still displaying because their paths haven't changed.
Here's how to fix your avatar if it's broken:
(Do this in Internet Explorer. You won't be able to find the broken avatar in Firefox.)
1. Right-click on your broken avatar image (i.e. the box with the red X in it).
2. Click "Properties."
3. Highlight the entire part to the right of where it says Address (URL)
Example: For WelchWitch, the address is http://octoberlounge.invisionzone.com/uploads/av-27.jpg
4. Press CTRL-C to copy that address to the clipboard.
5. Click "My Controls" in the bar right under the haunt banners above.
6. In the list on the left hand side, click "Edit Avatar Settings."
7. Click in the box that says "Enter a URL to an online avatar image." The cursor should flash in that box.
8. Press CTRL-V to paste the aforementioned address into the box.
9. Modify the address as follows: Replace the part that reads octoberlounge.invisionzone.com with the path www.octoberlounge.com instead.
Example: For WelchWitch, the new address would be http://www.octoberlounge.com/uploads/av-27.jpg
10. Click the button that says "Update Avatar."
That should fix it good as new for you.
(Why the hell am I still providing tech support? Must be because you're WelchWitch. You can thank me with a comp ticket if you'd like. http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif )

Well I thought I prefaced my post right, but I probably was too casual in my explanation. The critics all thought it would be fun to pick our PERSONAL favorites, because the top rated houses are an averaged score from everyone. I didn't start the thread to diss on other people or to suggest that everyone should agree with me instead of the overall scores.
To explain further, the critics are a pretty diverse bunch. We all like different types of houses, different types of scares and different types of sets/fx/props etc. Our opinions of houses tend to vary and in some cases the variance is pretty wide. I like Haunts with strobes and darkness, because I find them effective at disorienting me and working me up for the scares. I also really like innovation. I want to see things I've never seen before. Thats why Hauntplex is No 1 for me. Murray's falls right in the middle and Asylum is my number 3, because its pretty similar to years past, doesn't kill on the innovation factor, but man does it capitalize on darkness and strobes to make me scream!
So please don't take this thread as trying to discount my fellow critics or especially the top rated haunts. This is a personal opinion from a girl who likes some specific elements. If you don't like those elements don't go to these places. My opinions are just that and I don't expect everyone to agree.
And finally, we wrote bios about what we look for in a haunt this year that never got posted. The idea being that if you know what we look for in haunts it can help you find the critic you identify with most. So I'm sorry that element wasn't there to assist in understanding the point of all this. But hopefully now that I've explained myself we won't go getting our panties in any more bunches.

First of all I dont wear panties.....that is why it says don't look up.LOL. Thank you for explaining it further. It kinda sucks that we have to explain ourselves out like this. But it makes more sense now that you have. Thanks. I am all for the personal touch and thoughts. Maybe I just read it all wrong. It just came across to me differantly. But cool.

I lost mine, too...I even tried re-uploading. I think a setting got changed and it's not letting us upload the pix...only allowing us to use pix hosted elsewhere.
I've asked to see what can be done...it might have been on purpose and it might have been switched off by mistake. I'm sad without my avatar http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

It was a bad assumption, I just couldn't make heads or tails of your post. But track record speaks for itself: most people can't have anything be better than theirs, pride is a good thing but half of the people out there let it sit with "All of those suck because mine is better."

And I totally understand that perm. I agree that has happened here with others. Just has never happened with me. I gave good reviews on others last year and the year before. I know my house didn't do good last year. It was out of my control, I will admit it. But I am not going to trash it though. So my dear don't combine them with me and we will be buddy/buddy as you put it. . And one other thingl, it is usually safer if you don't start off with saying anything about a being an a-hole. That already will put you in that category. Next time just say huh? Much safer and easier. It was late for me, so I needed to re-explain no biggie. http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
