Wanted to go but didn't make it. It looked a little over-commercialized but probably would have been fun anyway.

I didn't make it either....they didn't look that promising this year. There were only a couple last year that were actualy good.

Field of Corpses was my only haunt this year. Wanted to make it to The Asylum, Murray's Massacre and Frightmare but ran out of time.

Let me tell you how weird it was only going to one haunted house since I've been to every haunt in Denver every year for the past seven years.

Shade: you must have been in withdrawals this season!! I would freak out! I have gone to every haunt every year for so many years now I don't know what I would do if I skipped any. I may stop breathing.... http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif

man are you lucky. god i wish i could have enough time let alone cash to visit every haunt

No luck in it...Once I decided I was "hooked on haunts" I started a halloween savings account at my bank. Every payday, a percentage of my check is deposited in my halloween account...of course some goes into my savings and Christmas too!
Then by halloween I have enough money saved up to hit every haunt at least twice...it's works really well for me,and I never even miss the money year round since I never see it.

As far as time goes, I always make sure I clear my schedule for the first 3 weekends of the season, and I also make a couple of spots during the week so I can go check them out. Anyone that knows me knows I am unavailable on weekends from the end of September to Halloween....hehehehhehe

It's really easy, and this is the best time to start. $25 a week into savings times 52 weeks...(drumroll please) $1300.00!!!! Painless as can be! You'll never even miss it...think of the useless stuff you can blow $25 on in a week...it's SO worth it!

Hellraiser15

jeeze 1300. Thats a good amount

Luv2BScared
11-21-2007, 10:56 AM
Yep....I always do $50 a week just cuz I always end up taking my kids and half of their friends. Whatever is left over goes into the costume/prop play fund! I do the same thing for Christmas...save a few bucks a week all year long and then I'm not pinched by the time the holidays get here.
Whatcha doing for Thanksgiving???

Hellraiser15

were having some people come over and were roastin a turkey. You?

We're having about 20 relatives over for Thanksgiving... should be crazy.

Here's my pseudo-Halloween tie-in... ready for this?

One of my hobbies is genealogy and I've been compiling a pretty big list of dead ancestors. There is a website called Find-A-Grave that catalogues burials in cemeteries all over the country and even includes volunteer-submitted photos for lots of graves. I have been collecting the photos of headstones of our ancestors and then building a slideshow to loop on a computer while the family is over.

So part of our Thanksgiving festivities will include a virtual cemetery tour. Does that kind of count as "creeping" the holiday? It's semi-morbid, so that should count for something, right?

Nice. Very good idea. That definitly helps make it scarier/creepier

Hellraiser: I am in a cooking frenzy right now!! I will have about 12 people over throughout the day not including family. I have a lot of friends that have no family here, and some have to work later today, so it's like a revolving door...people come, eat, hang out, leave..more people come, eat, hang out, leave...you get the idea. Hope you have an awesome day!

Shade:
That is the BEST!! I love that website! Morbid, yes...cool, yes!! Will your family be offended by the slideshow or will they be interested in the history, and family tree side of it?

Oh, and we will be having our traditional, "Turkey or Bust" competition again this year!! Every year we all weigh in before we eat, then once we have finished our meal and dessert, we weigh in again. The person who gained the most weight during the meal gets to be a lazy bum, pick what we watch on TV, and gets to skip helping cleanup. They also take home a 16 inch pumpkin pie. hehhehhehe....It's silly, and started a long time ago, but it's fun. It's the one time of year no one is nervous about jumping on the scale and actually looks forward to it!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!

They like the history of it all. I interspersed some really old photographs in between the headstones, so it wasn't quite as morbid as it could have been. I like the fact that that site gives me an excuse to go to graveyards and take photos, though. Now I have to start thinking through the creeping of Christmas... beyond just the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack playing all December...

That is an awesome idea. We totally have to do that next year. I would have won for sure... I had some of everything, plus turkey, plus ham, plus three different kinds of pie... There ended up being 27 people altogether, all eating in my basement at the same time. Talk about crazy.

Yup... 3 siblings, 2 parents, 2 grandparents, 2 uncles, 1 aunt, 6 cousins, 2 cousins-in-law, 2 cousin-in-law's-parents, 1 wife, 3 children (mine), 1 nephew, 1 friend, and me.

Not to mention... 2 turkeys, 1 ham, pumpkin pie, chocolate pie, pecan pie, green beans, corn, fried okra, scalloped potatoes, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, 2 kinds of Jello, frozen cranberry salad, tossed salad, stuffing, rolls, deviled eggs, li'l smokies, and chocolate turtle brownies. (Thank goodness I didn't have to cook it all.)

In case you couldn't tell, my family is as insane about Thanksgiving as I am about Halloween.
