View Full Version : What Attracts You The Most To Haunted Houses?

Personally for me its the atmosphere and approach of it all. Throughout the year, I'm busy with work or school, etc, but in October there's a genuine trip..haunted houses! Growing up being obsessed with horror movies and having a fascination towards the "darker side" of things, haunted houses are perfectly ideal for me. I remember the first one I went through when I was about 12 years old. It felt as if I left earth and entered this whole new dark world. Besides being terrified, I loved every second of it. Ever since then, I've had a pure obsession with them. Last year working in one, was one of the best things I've ever experienced and I plan to continue doing it for many years to come.

Now let's hear your stories..

Fear of the unknown....being in the dark, not knowing what could be lurking in there with me. I too grew up on horror flicks, and am constantly on the prowl for the thing that will truly make my blood run ice cold.

That adrenaline rush you get when the scare hits you. Your blood runs cold and your muscles clench. its the greatest feeling in the world to me

I really agree with you there. One of the best feelings ever. Can't really get that from anything else either.

For me, it is watching my friends (and strangers) scream and run away from the monsters.

Call me mean or whatever. I don't scare easily, so for me it is definately having fun with (and at the expense of) my friends.

I really want to be scared half to death but I get so into all the eye candy in a haunt that it's very hard to scare me. And if I'm with someone who is screaming and running I'm way too busy laughing at them to get scared.

I realy love watching people get scared, but it kills any potential scare for me. Maybe I need to go by myself through the haunts. hahah

It is MUCH better if you can go in a smaller group and can go when you won't catch up to other groups.

Isolation is an ideal way to really scare people. Imagine a Haunt that forced everyone to go through alone...

Of course, then I wouldn't get to have as much fun laughing at my friends (and strangers), but the experience would be new and cool. Maybe even scary! I think someone should do it.

Luv2BScared

I think it would really cut down on the number of visitors to haunts if everyone had to go through alone. They would chicken out, or simply not go. There's plenty of people that chicken out even with their friends. Personally, I would love it!!

And yes, not only is it funny, it's downright hysterical! Not trying to being a meanie, but for those of us who don't scare, watching those who do is a real treat!

Very true, you are someone that tends to attract the actors who love to scare. You are someone that they love!

Luv2BScared
09-02-2008, 09:55 PM
It's all in your body language. People who are scared tend to wrap their arms around themselves protectively or hang on to their friends with all they have. Actors see that and naturally go after them. When they see a person who walks through looking confident with their arms at their sides they just know that person will not scare easily. We learn to read these and many other signals unconsciously and them act on those signals.

The most fun I had at a Haunt was at Scream Park on Haunted Denver night two years ago. While waiting in line I saw this lady who brought her 13 year-old (or so) son and his group of friends. Before going in they were all talking tough, but you could see they were a little nervous. The mom saw that too and just waited in line with a knowing smile. They went in and you could hear the boys screaming (and the mom laughing) when the zombies attacked.

Once I was inside I came upon them, the boys were holding onto each other and saying "That's it - We're done - where is the exit?" I pointed to the exit (which was easily accessible after going through the rest of the Haunt). They wouldn't budge until the mom assured them that they would be alright and I agreed that I would go through the rest of the Haunt with them. Two chainsaw guys (complete with screaming tough-guy thirteen year-olds, a laughing mom, and a laughing Skelterbet) and an Evil Clown (complete with screaming tough-guy thirteen year-olds, a screaming-while-laughing mom, and a laughing Skelterbet) later we made it to the exit.

The mom said that was the most fun she'd had in years, and I agreed with her. Several of the boys commented how that was the scariest thing they'd ever experienced...and then one of them said "Yeah - that was cool. Can we do it again?"

Haunts. Chicken Soup for the Twisted Soul.

I have to say a big part of the fun of being an actor is watching who gets scared and finding their weakness and exploiting it. Security coming up to you at the end of the night and letting you know that it was you who successfully made some loose control of one or more bodily functions is great too...

The "down side" is not being able to remember the last time you were the one who was afraid. http://www.octoberlounge.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif
