I'll likely need to see a bunch of those to see how they turn out. Though I'm most excited about Raimi's flick. Bruce better get a role in there somewhere.

Hmm, are the rumors actually true?!
Evil Dead without Bruce..I don't know how good that would turn out.

About as good as a Nightmare on Elm St. remake without Robert Englund: tolerable but irritating for devoted fans but great for 17 year olds to say "did you see that new movie?!"

Exactly. For us die hards though, what's the point?

now now, even though Hollywood has run out of original ideas for horror movies, it's always good to see a re-imagining or different take/twist on an original. Fresh perspectives can breath new life into an idea.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lot of the remakes and in many cases more than the original. However, when you have Freddie himself wanting a role (and now more creepy than ever now that the years have taken their toll on him) and their actively avoiding even a bit part I'm not sure I'm down with that one.

Remakes I enjoy more than the original are numerous but in particular: Dawn of the Dead. Love the new one. If I was gay and it was a dude I'd probably let it bang me.

Ok I will ask.... have what bang you? All of them? One of them???

Hollywood wouldn't know what true horror was if it came and kicked it square in the butt. Horror movies are nothing but a waste of time and energy simply because they lack creativity and depth. Here is the content of every horror movie out there:
One guy
One girl, large chested and stupid as a bag of hammers
Alcohol and/or drug use
Sex
One mad slasher who pissed cuz someone put gum in his hair when he was a kid and now he's going to kill everyone in sight

Plot: Guy meets girl, they hang out, party, get drunk, have sex, run across killer and before getting whacked, girls screams, and screams, and screams, and Lord help us screams some more before the killer finally has some mercy on our ears and kills her.

LAME...If there were an inventive horror movie out there that actually built suspense and had me on the edge of my seat I would fall over dead from shock.

Alternate: Virus, toxic spill or aliens come and kill everyone....still LAME.
None of the garbage Hollywood spews out is even remotely plausible...it's just dumb and gory. I hate feeling like I have to "Dunb Down" just to watch it, so I don't. Of course most of the crap that Hollywood spews out, horror or not, is crap. That is why I watch indie films. At least there I have a 50/50 chance of being truly entertained and not have my intelligence insulted with bad writing, lousy overused story lines, and terrible animation and CGI.

Okay....I'm getting off the soapbox now.

I agree that indie horror is where it's at. Actually, I have been watching Spanish horror films with a lot of praise and attention. French too.

There is some good indie horror out there, but it is still somewhat mediocre compared to what it could be. I almost never watch anything but indie film in every genre, simply because it's better than mainstream.

On this topic, I saw Quarantine last night and I really enjoyed it.

Everyone else in my group said they were mad at the previews because it was a 30 second version of the movie. I, on the other hand, hadn't seen one and so it worked for me.

It was hit or miss at points but I thought the end was awesomely intense. I know it was a remake and I haven't seen the original which I hear has it's pros.

Of course, all of the above and Jennifer Carpenter is hot. That part never hutrs

I heard it's good, but I have a feeling that the best parts of the movie have already been seen in the trailers.

Ok, so I haven't seen "The Box" or "Piranha 3-D" yet... which one first?

Not a big 3-D fan so I'll say The Box.
