So while we were in Orlando we got to take a behind the scenes tour of Universal's Halloween Horror Nights, which included a tour of two of their eight haunted houses.
One was Interstellar Terror, and the other was Body Collectors. The detail in their haunts is awesome, and it was interesting to learn from our tour guide, that some of the materials they used were pretty common place, some even funny. I guess with their budget they are able to employ creative types who can see something put together from materials we may take for granted. I guess that part of my mind is functioning full tilt like theirs is! But what was interesting, is that even with their budget, they still improvise and make some standard/cheap things work.
They did have one awesome effect, that I have a sneaky suspicion you may see somewher in Denver next year, hmmmmm.
They also had on display a lot of their costumes, masks, and prosthetics. All of their masks and prosthetics are made at Universal specifically for Halloween Horror Nights, they no longer use any commercially available products. Wow, wouldn't it be fun to have that budget.
They had over a half million people go through their HHN event this year, I guess we don't have the throughput/conga line issues that they do!
All in all, a great experience, I went on the same tour last year, both were very well done. I'll see if I can dig up some pics.
