I'm working out schedule details, ID's, etc....gearing up and will be more than ready to go when the season starts!!!

Here is a site with basic instructions....I'd follow the general guidelines and add your own evil touches.

I'm glad you found that site, it's exactly the one that I was about to suggest before I noticed that you found it yourself. They are my all time favorite scarecrows. My absolute favorite is Johnny Appleseed. That thing is just made of pure evil.

I to am friggen' excited about the season, but I'm not ready for it to start. I've been getting pretty ambitious with my own prop building and have so little time remaining. ARGH!!!

If I could just go through the haunts and still have a couple more months until Halloween to get my own stuff finished, that would be perfect!

HMMMMMM, we may have make Halloween a month long event instead of just a day. All those in favor, say AYE!!

I agree!

anybody have any experience playing with paper mache and paint? I'd like to attempt to make a scarecrow like pumpkinrot, but have never used those materials before. i know it's really easy to make paper mache, but to paint it and sculpt it is another matter. any special paint to use? any other tools?

Luv2BScared

I used to build props in school for the drama dept. and the main key was to make sure that you did it in gradual layers and build it up. You would do your base layer, let it dry. Then, with every new layer you would add more definition working toward the final shape you wanted to achieve. Just allow it to dry between each new layer. Also, don't be skimpy with the "glue" itself. The more the better actually and you want the newspaper soaked in it so you can easily mold and shape it the way you want. You can get the fine details done using simple household items when it's about half dry. Potato mashers for instance make some very cool textures as do meat tenderizers, egg slicers, etc. The paints we used most were basic poster paint that we mixed up to get the colors and depth we needed. You could use any paint you choose really and could even airbrush it once it's dry. The one's on Pumpkinrot look like they may be airbrushing or spray painting them. Just play with it a bit and be creative and have fun!

Here's a link for paper mache paste and pulp.

Resin paste works the best for intricate details

I did hear that Jesters Dinner Theater in Longmont will be having a haunt of some type this year. No details yet, but they should be coming. I'm not sure if this will be a full scale haunt, or something smaller. When I know, everyone here will know!

Boy, I don't know but if I was opening up something new, I'd certainly want to tell people about it. There aren't that many days left to promote anything. I imagine we'll get some poems or riddles soon...:)

Oh yeah, and weren't you guys trying to get back on topic? Sure, you know you can start your own topic if you'd like.

the city of the dead website does not look like it will be scary... Not compared to 13th Floor, Frightmare, Ect... It is only 5 min away from where I live so I may pay a visit but you people gotta let me know if it is worth my money.

It's hard to gauge from a website, just like horror movies. The trailer looks awesome, you go see it and it's garbage. Some trailers look lame and the movie turns out to be amazing. Never judge a book by it's cover. And yes, we will let you know how it is.

Looking at the website, the title is "Awaken the Fallen" I'm guessing, and I could be wrong here, that it has something to do with dead soldiers. May be something of a battleground type scene. They have a great outdoor location and could go a variety of different ways.

You'll have to let us know how his haunt is!! I believe that HD is adding a section for home haunts to post their attraction. If that goes up, you will have to post a review on it there.

Chris~

I highly doubt it will be that good to post but we will see! The old kindergarden teacher used to be best friends with the owner and she used to sit ontop of the barn and watch the people get scared lol... Apparently the owner has some connection with my school because Frightmare always buzzes around there and we got coupons 2 years ago :)

I don't know on the website date, but Bloodshed is located at the same spot as 13th Floor.
