What were your best memories in haunted houses or Halloween in general? My best was the haunt season of 07. I had been invited to do a haunt circuit by a gal who worked at the coffee shop at the king soopers with some of her fiends, she had said that I could invite anyone else that I wanted to, so I had invited a girl named Sam I met working at King Soopers earlier in the year, seemed like it was going to be a big shindig, I was wrong.
The night came, I was anxious to go all week so I was about to burst with excitement, until the coffee shop gal called me and told me that her car broke down at 4pm, we were all supposed to meet at 5 at my house, so things weren't looking too good. At 5 on the dot, Sam arrived at my house and the plans changed a bit, we were to go to CarnEvil and Dead Before Dawn together, by ourselves.
We arrived at Red And Jerry's just in time to get in, so we bought our tickets, and waited in line for CarnEvil first. We got to know each other in the wait, finding out that we had very similar tastes and interests, (I even gave her a recorded copy of the Star Wars Family Guy episode I taped a few days earlier. :)) We found ourselves now entering the haunt.
As we went in, it started with a train bit, and in was pitch dark, the next thing that happened surprised the hell outta me, she started to hold my hand! She was on me through the whole haunt and we had a blast, the chainsaw guy shased us out of the exit as far as the restaurant at the end of the hall! (I love enthused actors! lol) and I asked her if she wanted to grab a bite to eat, and we ate a little before the next haunt.
Sam Chickened out of DBD but I respected it, but I had later went in with my brother, but that's a different story.
We started seeing each other more after that, and to this day, we are engaged to be married in October! I could never forget the feelings we shared that day, it will be a memory I will have with me on my death bed.

Congrats and good luck with your engagement.
I have plenty of fun experiences with haunts. Just a few funny memories came to mind right now.
A while back when Alien Terror was at the Buckingham mall, there was a room that was supposed to be a Klingon mine. At one point a Klingon came running out of some mine shaft and got a little too close to a chain hanging off of a light fixture. His wig got caught in a kink of the chain and ripped his whole forehead off and he ran away. My friends and I started yelling "WE SCALPED HIM!!!"
Another time, I was visiting my sister in Kansas City and we decided to go to "The Beast" (which is a fantastic haunt BTW). There is a scene that is supposed to be back in Jack the Ripper's London. We were walking along in front of a pub and I see Jack clinging to one of the light posts. I didn't say a word as we walked by. He then proceeded to scare the crap out of my sister. After that, I was dubbed a murder's assistant for not ratting him out to everyone else in my group.
Finally, last year as a Critic we were all touring the 13th floor. In the haunt, there was one of those extra long claustrophobia bags. In the middle of it, I decided that I really needed to stop, turn around and scare Vicki. She screamed and started flailing her arms and I got socked directly on the nose.
Ahh good times.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding Fisk!! What a great way to fall in love!!
My fondest memories were setting up our home haunt when I was a kid. My dad was a great sport and busted his tail to help set things up. We had a huge 2 story house near Washington Park and there were rooms that were perfect for haunting. And the basement....ahhhhhhhhh, it was so scary and creepy down there that my mom and sister wouldn't even go down there. My dad and I had to haul the laundry up and down because they wouldn't go.
I remember kids coming by on Halloween and they would run screaming from our house because they were so scared!! I loved it!!

My best haunt memory was at Screampark about 4 years ago.
It was my friends first time in a haunt and I went to Screampark the year before and thought I would take her there.
Well, everything was going great untill we got near the end with the chainsaw in the house setting. The chainsaw started his engine and my friend and I bolted. Well, we made a wrong turn and ran right into the wall. We were hurtin bad so the guy stopped to make sure we were okay and once he saw we were semi fine (except for the tears and blood leaking out of us) he revved up his chainsaw again and scared us off the other way....::sighs:: good times.
Another time at Screampark the year before, the chainsaw that gets you at the end was chasing me. I fell in front of EVERYONE waiting in line and the guy stood right above me with the chainsaw...no one tried to save me and I was crawling to get away from him. Hey what do you want? I was like, 14 and scared out of my mind.
Anyways! I like your engagement story! Its cute!

I told Luv2 this story before and some of you may have read it but...
Last year I went into Frightmare and it was the first and only haunted house ive been to. So, I was with 4 of my friends and there was this creepy monster that I saw in the distance and I was walking closer and closer than a monster came out at my friend I thought it was coming for me so I ran and then hit this creepy monster thing thinking it was a prop. Then I started walking slowly waiting for my friends and then the monster went "boo" in my ear and as a reaction I turned around and smacked that thing! it was hilarious and we shook hands and I continued but then I didnt make it all the way through :(

Last year, I saw a lot of people that didn't make it through a haunt. In the Asylum I nearly trampled a family of three that was huddled on the floor in the dark FREAKING OUT!! I had to help them get to an exit, they were literally frozen with fear. It was awesome!!! (HUGE evil grin!!)

What a great thread!
I could probably write at least twelve pages consisting of my favorite memories, but I'll just stick to one for now:
Last year, I was working the first scare of the haunt that I work at. A typical group of high school children were coming through, making negative remarks regarding the haunt, scaring their girlfriends, as I said, typical scenario (if you work in a haunt or if you have been apart of that group.) The spot I was working that was a foggy, dark, forest scene and I was hiding behind a plastic tree; waiting. Then suddenly I heard fast paced footsteps approaching me. It was the leader of the group. I made this assumption by hearing the girls whining, "______, get back here! Come on, don't leave us!" The fearless leader ran into the room and made an attempt to hide from the rest, he thought it would be best to hide behind a plastic tree too (unknowingly I was just a few inches behind him.) Directly to his left was a metal sheet with a few chains hanging down that I'd scrape and hit violently with a machete I was equipped with, creating a terrible, deafening sound. The jock in front of me was giggling to himself, anxiously waiting for his friends to catch up. A few seconds later his friends made it into the forest and with perfect timing, just as the kid was reaching out to grab his friends, I ran my machete up the chains on the metal wall and started to perform my act. The kid dropped straight to the floor with no resistance whatsoever and the rest of his friends tripped right over him. I continued to hit the chains and even got down on the ground to join their "cuddle-puddle".
I love my job.

agreed
top of my list has to be 2000 @ Heritage Square ("Tombs Of Terror" a small haunt 200' to the west of were Spider Manson is) ... slow night, one group left it the house, no one in line @ the moment, I got on the radio and told the crew.."if they run, run them" the chain saw (followed by every actor in the house) chased them, much to my surprise, all the way to the parking lot (300 yards) were dad was waiting next to the car.....fealing safe they stopped to taunt... dad locked the doors and drove off:p, we finished running them out of the parking lot... dad driving slowly with a big grin, kids banging on the windows begging to be let in.
note abul seconds
the drunk guy who got mad I scared him and decked me @ scream park in 2002, only to have his girl slap the crap out of him for it (like beat him down)
during the build one of the BP crew sneaking up and yelling in my ear while I was trying to fix a runaway fogger seting for the "fog room".. he though it was so funny to finally "get" me he fell over laffing... if you have ever been in a brutal Planet fog room....you know thats a bad idea, much less a room we deem "too foggy" I ended up having to lituraly drag him across the floor and out to fresh air

Tomb of Terror? I've never heard of that one. How long did it run at Heritage Square? Any good?

I too have too many great memories to list them all.
But I have to say my favorite one was when I scared the crap out of 6 Marines. OMG it was so funny, I was in an out door area of the haunt I worked last season. My character was a mutated Scarecrow. As these 6 Marines entered my scene they were surrounded by several scarecrows, but only one was the real deal. I was perched up on a 4 ft platform surrounded by corn stalks that were also everywhere along the path. As they walked by, it looked like they were doing a conga line, because they were all huddled together in single file. As they were looking at the fake scarecrow directly across the path from me I screeched to get them to turn there eyes towards me, and leaped off the platform directly towards the middle of them. The reaction I got from them was PRICELESS! The 3rd Marine in line fell to the ground in a fetal position and the 2 in front of him ran one direction and the 3 behind him ran the other. They left him to fend for himself with a nearly 7ft tall 260 lb Mutant Scarecrow, that was in his face screeching at him. He was BEGGING for mercy, and for his buddies to help him. But all his buddies did was stand there trying to figure out how to get him away from this monstrosity. Finally I let him get to his feet, and he took off. But now the two Marines that ran back the opposite way were standing in the path trying to figure out how to get past
"OLE STITCH". All I did was stand there in this very narrow path, looking at them, and screeching. They finally mustered up enough courage to sqeeze past me as I moved towards them, all the while putting the other in harms way saying "OH GOD, OH GOD"! It was a thing of beauty.
Scare Ya Later: "STITCH"
