Masters of Horror, for those of you who've been living under a rock in a cave on a desert island somewhere , is a series of 13 hour-long fright flicks on Showtime. Each episode is a stand-alone story directed by a modern "Master of Horror". I'm sure that most of you are aware that the first season is available on DVD.
Anyone care to discuss their favorites and not-so-favorite offerings from last season's MOH?
John Carpenter, Stuart Gordon, John Landis, Dario Argento, Joe Dante- just to name a few of the big guns in the MOH line-up...
I think that Pick Me Up, directed by Larry Cohen, and Cigarette Burns (John Carpenter directing) were the two that I enjoyed the most. Incident On and Off a Mountain Road ( directed by Don Coscarelli of Phantasm and Bubba-Ho-Tep fame) is probably my second choice.
Dance of the Dead, directed by Tobe (original Texas Chainsaw Massacre) Hooper was my least favorite, even though Robert (Freddy Krueger!) Englund stars in this one.
The production values for this series are all impressive, especially the fantastic makeup work.
Of course, I have not yet seen Imprint by Takashi (Audition, Ichi the Killer) Miike, because even Showtime has apparent censorship issues...or was it all a clever ploy to sell TONS of DVDs?
